UKULELE MINNEAPOLIS
MINNEAPOLIS' #1 UKULELE PROVIDER
THE MINNEAPOLIS UKULELE SCENE
If you’re a nature lover, more specifically the kind who enjoys spending time at lakes, then the state of Minnesota will be well known to you. In the heart of this abundance of water lies the proud city of Minneapolis. Diversity is synonymous with this town in every possible aspect with strengths in business, medicine, sports, manufacturing, culture, education and research. Any music history in the city of water? For sure. Late iconic rock and pop star Prince was a Minneapolis native and his career was launched from the many studios and clubs in this vibrant city.
Nowhere near as big as Prince but making a statement in Minneapolis is the beloved ukulele. One such example is the Twin Cities Ukulele Club who operate under the slogan “Uke 4 Fun”. This lively bunch is an adult and teen group dedicated to playing and singing ukulele songs at BUZZ (Bluegrass Ukulele Group Jams), UkeAmericana, several Friday morning jams and also perform at various Twin Cities locations including festivals. Every session starts off with a 30-minute tutorial section, so don’t be put off from joining if you’re just starting out. You can contact the Twin Cities Ukulele Club through their website listed below.

StrumMN is another establishment where you can fulfil your Bondi Uke’s potential to the fullest. This group takes inspiration from the ukulele’s Hawaiian heritage and has been meeting regularly since 2005 to “have fun, share ideas and helps each other learn and improve”. On their extensive website (which is listed below) you can find sheet music, upcoming events, welcome sections for newcomers, a forum, message boards and pictures and videos of past events and sessions. They sure are organized, these strummers. Why not give them a shout and explore the options?

The Two Harbours Ukulele Group strum their stuff on the beautiful North Shore of Lake Superior. They welcome beginners with open arms and meet up twice a week to keep their picking fingers nimble. Another drawcard from this group is the annual Silver Creek International Ukulele Carnival. This get together was founded in 2011 with the specific aim to bring together Ukesters from all over the world for fun and education and spans over a whole weekend. The next Silver Creek Fest is in August 2018, and with last year’s attendance reaching almost 150 strummers, this year promises to be a ukefest of epic proportions. Sound like fun?
